The PDFlib product family is available in three different flavors:
PDFlib, PDFlib+PDI (PDF Import), and the PDFlib Personalization
Server (PPS).
All products of the PDFlib family are distributed within a single package which is fully functional, but displays a demo stamp across all pages unless a valid license key is applied. According to your order the license key will activate PDFlib, PDFlib+PDI, or the Personalization Server.
One license covers a single computer running under the selected operating system (platform), regardless of the number of CPUs.
Development licenses for machines which are not used for production purposes and run under the same operating system are free with each purchase.
Redundant (backup) machines do not require a separate license, provided they are never used concurrently with the actual production machines.
Groups of load-balancing servers require a license for every server in the group.
Supplying the name of the target operating system platform is a strict requirement since the license is bound to a specific platform. The license is valid for all supported language bindings (programming languages) on the selected platform.
Details of the commercial PDFlib license can be found in the document General License and Support Conditions which is also contained in the PDFlib distribution.
Please contact sales@pdflib.com regarding licensing details for IBM iSeries and zSeries.
See below for redistributable (Premium) licenses.
Customers in the Americas, Australia and Japan will be invoiced in US-$, all other regions in Euro. Customers in Germany must add 19% VAT (MwSt.).

Volume discounts are available for multiple licenses of the same product, provided all licenses are ordered with a single combined order:
Number of licenses | Discount off list price |
5 or more | 10% |
10 or more | 15% |
Please contact us for discounts on higher numbers of licenses.
An update changes an older license to a license for a newer version on the same platform, thereby invalidating the old license. A valid license key must be supplied with each update order. Licenses for PDFlib 6 and 7 products can be updated to PDFlib 8 at a reduced license fee:
CPU-based licenses for PDFlib 6 products: Each CPU license for a version 6 product entitles to an update to a server-based version 8 license. For example, a dual-CPU license can be updated to two version 8 server licenses.
Server-based licenses for PDFlib 7 products: Each license entitles to an update to a version 8 license.
Maintenance updates (e.g., from version 8.0.0 to 8.0.1) are free. Customers without a support contract can add support when updating to PDFlib 8. In this case the support fee is based on the full license fee of the product (not the reduced update fee). The discount for updating PDFlib, PDFlib+PDI, or PPS 6 or 7 to version 8 is the same for all combinations.

An upgrade changes an existing license for a PDFlib 8 product to a license for a more advanced product on the same platform, thereby invalidating the old license. All licenses can be upgraded at a reduced fee. A valid license key must be supplied with an upgrade order. The following table indicates the fees for various upgrade combinations as a percentage of the target product’s list price:

The »Grace Period« for PDFlib 8 is the period between October 01, 2009 and December 31, 2009. Customers who purchased PDFlib 7 licenses during the grace period (according to the invoice date) are eligible for a free update to PDFlib 8 as follows:
Free updates are not provided automatically, but must be requested explicitly by the customer before January 31, 2010. The old license key or invoice number must be provided with the request.
The free update license is valid for the same product within the PDFlib family as the old license. For example, a license for PDFlib+PDI 7 will be updated to PDFlib+PDI 8.
The new license is valid for the same platform as the old license.
Free updates are available directly from PDFlib GmbH, but not from online shops. Customers in Japan can request the free update from their reseller.
Please note the following restrictions to the grace period policy:
Updates, upgrades, and Premium licenses are not eligible for free grace period updates.
The grace period regulation does not apply to IBM iSeries and zSeries licenses.
