Updating to PDFlib 10

PDFlib 10 licensing is described on the purchase order form and in our General License and Support Conditions. The text below describes various situations related to updating older releases to PDFlib 10.

In this context »PDFlib 10« is a placeholder for any product of the PDFlib 10 family, i.e. PDFlib 10, PDFlib+PDI 10, and PPS 10.

Complimentary Updates to PDFlib 10 for Purchases within the Grace Period

The »Grace Period« for PDFlib 10 is the period between October 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022. Customers who purchased PDFlib 9 licenses in the grace period (according to the invoice date) are eligible for a free update to PDFlib 10 as follows:

  • Free grace period updates are available directly from PDFlib GmbH, but not from online shops or resellers. Customers in Japan can request the free update from their reseller.
  • Free grace period updates are not provided automatically, but must be requested before February 28, 2022. The previous license key or invoice number must be provided with the request.
  • The grace period update license is valid for the same product within the PDFlib family as the previous license. For example, a license for PDFlib+PDI 9 can be updated to PDFlib+PDI 10.
  • The new license is valid for the same platform as the old license.
  • Major and minor updates, upgrades, and Premium licenses are not eligible for free grace period updates to PDFlib 10.

Free Updates to PDFlib 10 for PDFlib 9 Licenses with active Support

Customers with an active support agreement are eligible for a free update to PDFlib 10. The free update must be requested during the active period of the support agreement. For example, if you terminate your support agreement in April 2022, you can no longer request a free update to PDFlib 10 after this date.

Major Updates to PDFlib 10 for PDFlib 9 Licenses without active Support

Licenses for a PDFlib 9 product without active support can be updated to PDFlib 10 by purchasing a major update according to our documented update paths. For example, a license for PDFlib+PDI 9 can be updated to PDFlib+PDI 10 at 60% of the list price of PDFlib+PDI 10 at the time of the update. Updates can be combined with upgrades.

Customers with a license for PDFlib 8 and older versions can move to PDFlib 10 by purchasing a new license at list price.

Availability of PDFlib 9 Licenses

In order to protect customer investments and to allow customers to extend existing PDFlib 9 installations without changing their software stack, PDFlib 9 licenses are still available after the release of PDFlib 10. The exact conditions of PDFlib 9 availability depend on whether or not the customer has an active support agreement as detailed in the following table:

Customer already has... PDFlib 9 is available until...
no PDFlib 9 licenses December 2021
PDFlib 9 licenses without support December 2022
PDFlib 9 licenses with active support December 2023 (end of lifetime for PDFlib 9)

PDFlib 9 licenses purchased after January 31, 2022 are not eligible for free updates to PDFlib 10 (even with active support). However, they can be updated at the reduced fee (60% of the target price) to the same version 10 product on the same platform (e.g. a PDFlib 9 license can be changed to a PDFlib 10 license at 60% of the list price of PDFlib 10).
